Every Christian is a new creation. Today’s verse shows us how we have become new creations.
“If then you have been raised with Christ…”
“If” is better translated “since.” So “since you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above.”
This verse connects our new life with Christ’s resurrection. A Christian has not received religion, a Christian has been raised with Christ.
The new life you have comes to you from Jesus. You are joined with Him spiritually. He died the death that you deserved on the cross. He rose from the dead and so gives His life to all who believe. He has ascended to heaven and sits at the right hand of God, so we are seated with Christ now spiritually (Ephesians 2:6) and we will be with Him face to face physically when He returns.
This is why we can be so confident that Philippians 1:6 is true – “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
If you are a Christian, the new life you have was not created by you; it is not sustained by you. No, it comes from Jesus. Just has Jesus can never die, so you can never lose the life He has given you.
We may feel weak and, if it was just our strength, we are weak. But, His resurrection life is eternal, and that is the life He has given you.
