Daily Devotional for 2 August 2020 – Colossians 3v1 part 2

Colossians 3:1

This is a great verse for a Sunday: “If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”

Since we have been raised with Christ (see yesterday’s devotional), our desires, prayers, worship are to be heavenward.  All that we need as new creations, all that is desirable and glorious and satisfying to the born again life, is found in Christ and Christ alone.

The same word is used of Jesus seeking for us in Luke 19:10 (“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”)  He pursued us, He saved us through going to the cross.

He came to seek and save and so every believer (everyone who has been found by Jesus) is called to seek Him, to spend time with Him, to call upon Him prayer, to worship Him.

We need to seek Him and “the things that are above.”  What is above?  The Godhead.  We come to the Father through Jesus by the Holy Spirit.  But also: there is holiness, there is glory, there is peace, there is all of heaven’s blessings.

Yes, we need food and clothes and homes and blessing on our families, but we also need to grow to be like our Saviour.  So, let’s seek Him for that, too.  In heaven, His presence is there, so let’s seek Him for His presence in our lives.

These are good things, not just for Sunday, but for every day.
