These verses cause controversy in modern society because they talk about wives submitting to husbands. At the same time, however, they reveal the love of Jesus for His church, and that is very precious.
“Christ loved the church”. That love is the same, even when we cannot meet together.
He “gave Himself up for her”. He loved you and gave Himself for you on the cross (Galatians 2:20).
“That He might sanctify her.” You are set apart. You belong to Jesus Christ. You are clean and He is continuing to wash you through His word to help you to grow in holiness.
“To present the church to Himself in splendour…” All that He leads us through is working towards that great day when we will stand before Him perfect.
“How good it is to be loved by You.”
