“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.“
The final part of this verse is such good news for the Christian – Jesus is seated at the right hand of God.
It is good news firstly because Jesus has finished His saving work. On the cross He paid for our sin in full and now His is seated at God’s right hand because the work is completed and now He is at rest. There is nothing more that needs to be done, nothing more that needs to be paid, in order to forgive and save His people.
If you have put your trust in Christ, your sins are gone from God’s presence, they are erased from your spiritual account by the work of Jesus. Yes, we still sin and we feel the guilt of sin, but as the hymn reminds us: “When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see Him there, who made an end to all my sin.“
Secondly, He is reigning as King on the throne at God’s right hand. This shows His authority. He rules the universe. We are worried about Covid, about the future, our jobs, our children, the state of the world around us. But Jesus rules. We often don’t understand His plans, but we can be completely at peace because Jesus reigns on the throne.
Our sins are gone and our future is secure. Jesus reigns.
