Daily Devotional for 7 August 2020 – Colossians 3v4 part 2

Colossians 3:4

There is one more phrase in Colossians 3:4 – “When Christ who is your life appears.”

We will appear with Him in glory but, if you are a Christian, He is your life now.

He is the source of life.  Our life comes from Him.  We have physical life because He is our creator.  Even greater, Christians have spiritual life because of Jesus.  “Because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19).  God has made you alive together with Christ (Ephesians 2:5).  You are born again; you have eternal life from Christ.

He is the sustainer of life.  He preserves your spiritual life.  Your life is hidden with Christ (Colossians 3:3).  No-one can snatch you out of His hand (John 10:28).

He is the motivation for life.  Paul says, “To live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).  The Christian lives because of love for Christ and wants to please Him.  If we love Him we obey His commandments (John 14:15).  Because of Jesus, we have a purpose for life – to live for His glory.

He is the satisfaction in life.  So many people say that they will be happy if they have X.  “X” could be a new job, a new relationship, a better place to live, or retirement.  But Jesus said, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 6:35).

Praise Him that He is all these things and, if other things are your motivation or satisfaction, then confess to Him and ask for His help to change.
