Daily Devotional for 6 August 2020 – Colossians 3v4

Colossians 3:4

Yesterday’s verse says,”Your life is hidden with Christ in God.”  You are hidden and protected in Christ.  Also, we are hidden in the sense that we just look like ordinary people.  Christians don’t go around with halos on their heads!

Now the world sees weak Christians, and people think we are mad or stupid.  But then, when Christ appears, what you are as God’s children will be seen by everyone.

“When Christ, who is your life, appears, you also will appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:4).

What an amazing statement!  Not only is Christ returning, but also He will display something of His glory in us!  What is now hidden to the world around, the fact that we have new life, the fact that we are children of God, will be displayed to all creation.

We will be rewarded as a free gift by being in that glory with our glorious Lord, but also in a sense sharing that glory, reflecting that glory.

We don’t share glory in the sense of sharing His deity and receiving the honour that only He deserves.  But we receive glory as our earthly bodies are made like His glorious body (Philippians 3:21), the heavenly hosts will praise God for His work of salvation (Revelation 5:8-14), and we will rest in the fullness of His glorious presence.

What a day that will be!  Do you feel weak?  It is not forever!  Do you feel sometimes that God is far away?  You will see Him!  Do you feel fear?  Fears will melt away in His glory!  Do you feel sorrow and pain?  God will wipe away every tear from your eyes!

Let these amazing things lift you today.  This is why verse 2 says, “Set your minds on things that are above…”  Our vision of the future gives us strength to live today.
