So far, we have seen that we are made personally by the Lord in His image, which is glorious, but we are also dust, which is humbling. We have damaged that image through our sin, but God has justified every believer, made us alive together with Christ and is preparing us for glory.
In today’s verse we see the future of the believer, all because of what Jesus has done.
Jesus came to put right what Adam got wrong, so He is called the last Adam (v45). He puts us right with God through dying in our place. But He also transforms us.
Although we were made by the Lord Himself, we also bear the image of Adam because we sin and die like Him (v48-49). But, for the Christian, that is not our destiny.
Jesus, the last Adam, came to make us like Himself. Look at verse 49: “Just as we have born the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.”
Jesus has made you right with His Father but He is also going to transform you. Your earthly body of dust that is weak and gets sick is going to be transformed to reflect His glory and live forever in the fullness of God’s presence!
As the song says: “Man of heaven, born to earth, to restore us to Your heaven.”
What a Saviour. Worship Him today!
