Today we are finishing off Proverbs 18:10, by looking at three words.
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe.
Righteous. Not saying we need to be good enough to run to because every believer has the righteousness of Christ. It is telling us that the righteous thing when we have trouble in our lives isn’t to complain, or feel sorry for ourselves, but the righteous thing is to run to the Lord. The world is bound by fear; believers are people of faith. So, the right response to trouble is to seek the Lord.
Run. We don’t run physically but spiritually. We “run” the Lord when we worship Him, when we pray, when we receive His word. The word “run” suggests it is an urgent thing to do. The first thing we need is to seek Him.
Safe. This doesn’t mean that we never have problems! However it does mean that these things can never completely defeat us, that the enemy – the devil – cannot win, and nothing can snatch us out of the Lord’s hands. It means that we are safe even when we are going through difficult times because God is sovereign over the trouble, He will meet us in the trouble, and will use it for our good.
“Hide me now, under Your wings. Cover me, within Your mighty hands.”
