Daily Devotion for 8 April – Proverbs 3:5

Proverbs 3:5

When we’re sick or we face problems we are tempted to question what God is doing.  Why has He let me get sick?  Why is He not answering my prayers quickly?

And then we try and use our own mind to think about what He is doing.

Proverbs 3:5 says,  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”

That is a huge challenge.  We want answers from God.  But He simply calls us to trust Him.

The word “lean” means to depend on, to rely on.  If you lean against a wall and it is broken, the wall and you will fall down.  If you lean against a strong wall, it will support you.

If you lean on your own understanding, it will fail you.  It won’t support you or give you strength for life.  But if you lean on the Lord, even though you might still have questions about what He is doing, then He will support you.  He will never fail you.  He will never break His promises.  You can trust Him completely, with all your heart.
