Devotional for 27 October 2020 – Hebrews 10v19-22 part 2 – by the blood of Jesus

Hebrews 10:19-22 part 2

Yesterday we saw that we have confidence to enter the most holy place (into God’s presence). These verses use the illustration of the tabernacle in the wilderness where the sacrifices were made in the Old Testament. The high priest could only go in once a year on the Day of Atonement, to sprinkle the blood of the sin offering for himself and for the people.

Now it says we have confidence. That means every single believer. But how?

Jesus has made the way for us. “By the blood of Jesus” (v19). It is His death that has made the way. He died in our place and so we are free from sin and able to come into God’s presence.

This is reinforced by verse 20: “by the new and living way that He opened for us through the curtain, that is, through His flesh.” In the tabernacle and in the temple there was a curtain separating the Most Holy Place from the rest. When Jesus died on the cross, the curtain was torn into two from top to bottom, showing us that the way was open and that He had made us right with God.

Then we get another assurance in verse 21: “And since we have a great high priest over the house of God.” He not only died for us, and opened the way for us, He is also our great high priest who represents us before God and intercedes for us and welcomes us into God’s presence.

This is why prayer truly is fellowship with God.  It is a real meeting with Him, through the curtain, into His holy presence to talk to our Father who accepts us because of Jesus.

The way is open for you to pray, so why not pray?

And if you are not yet a Christian, why not ask God to save you through Jesus? He died to bring you to God. You will be forgiven and you will know God and you will be able to talk to Him in prayer, not as a God far away, but as God who is your God.
