Daily Devotional for 22 October 2020 – Hebrews 10v14 – Perfected forever

Hebrews 10:14

I’m sure you have heard the phrase “no-one is perfect.” As human beings we fall short, even of our own standards. But we can become casual and not care about mistakes or sin.

On the other hand, some people try to be perfect all the time and are terribly distressed if they fail at something.

Today’s verse points us away from ourselves to Jesus: “By a single offering He has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”

We’ve just said “no-one is perfect” but this verse says that He has “perfected for all time!” Wow!

True perfection isn’t meeting our own standards or the standards of our culture or nation. True perfection is standing perfect before God Almighty. But this is what Jesus has done for everyone who believes in Him.

I’ll say that again: through Jesus’ ONE sacrifice, everyone who believes in Him stands perfect in the sight of Almighty God. The sacrifice of Jesus removed our sin so completely and clothed us in His righteousness so now God the Father looks at you and sees perfection!

At the same time, today’s verse says: “He has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” “Perfected for all time” is talking about our standing before God. “Being sanctified” is talking about the way we live.

God the Father looks at us in Christ and He sees perfection. At the same time, He empowers us by His Spirit through Christ to live more and more free from sin. So, you have a perfect standing with God and a life that He is changing to more and more show His holiness and glory.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits!
