Daily Devotional for 13 September 2020 – Hebrews 4v16 – Let us then draw near with confidence

Hebrews 4:16

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace…”

Why?  Because we have a perfect High Priest. The end of verse 15 told us He is “without sin.”  So, when we go into the presence of God in His name, we go as people who are accepted by Almighty God.  We go through our sinless Saviour.   Even though we are sinners, we can come and talk to Almighty God.

How often we don’t pray because we listen to the lies of the devil that tell us that we are not worthy to pray! He tells us that we are not good enough for God to listen to us.

But, we don’t have to listen to that lie.  This verse is clear.  “Let us then with confidence draw near…”  We can come boldly, we can come without fear of being turned away into the presence of Almighty God.

But even when we do believe that we can draw near to God, the devil has another lie to keep us from the blessings of truly praying.  Often we don’t pray for the reality of our needs because we think that our God is too high and exalted to be concerned about the little details of our lives.

The word translated “confidence” can also mean “freedom of speech” or “plain and honest speech”.  In other words, because of Jesus, we can speak to our Father with complete honesty, about every single detail.

Jesus Himself walked this earth. He ate and drank and He slept and needed clothing.  He depended on His Father for all things.  So can we.  Our God is concerned with every detail of our lives – the small things and the big things.

So let’s not hold back. Let’s seek Him with the whole heart.  Let’s bring all of our needs to Him.
