Daily Devotional for 30 August 2020 – Hebrews 2v14 – Christ partaking flesh and blood

Hebrews 2:14

Our heavenly Father is good.  He is so good that He wants His people to be sure about their salvation.  He wants you to be sure.

God calls us to believe Him.  We are saved through faith, and we continue to live the Christian life through faith.  But, He doesn’t simply leave us with blind faith.  He helps us by giving us reasons to trust Him.

How can we know that Jesus is a sufficient and perfect Saviour?  How can sinful people be forgiven and given life?

Over the next few days, we’re going to look at one of those reasons, which we’re told in today’s scripture: “since the children [that’s us] share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook the same things…” (Hebrews 2:14).
In other words, we can be sure that He is a sufficient and perfect Saviour because He truly became human (as well as truly being God).

Adam and Eve were human.  You are human.  It is human beings who need to be saved.  So, He had to become like us, to die in our place, to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins.   It wasn’t angels who sinned, so an angel couldn’t die for us.  It wasn’t animals who sinned, so they can’t die for us (the old covenant sacrifices pointed to Jesus).  Only a human could die in place of humans.  And that is exactly what Jesus did in becoming a man and going to the cross.

What amazing love!  The God of glory, the eternal God, took human flesh and blood.  He became subject to weakness, tiredness, pain and even death in order to be the perfect Saviour.

Since He has done this, your salvation is secure.  Praise His name.
