Daily Devotional for 23 August 2020 – Titus 3v4-7 – the goodness and loving kindness of God

Titus 3:4-7

In verse 3, which looked at yesterday and the day before, Paul reminds believers of their old life before they knew Jesus.  In verse 4, he shows how we have been saved.

Our salvation has happened because of who God is.  Verse 4 says:
“But…”  We were like this (“foolish, disobedient…” verse 3), but God has done something.  He has turned us around.  He has stepped in when we didn’t deserve it and rescued us.

“…the goodness and loving kindness of God our Saviour appeared…”  Salvation hasn’t come because we were nice and good people, but because God Himself is kind and loving towards us.  Our salvation has come from Him, because of Him.

He could have turned away from us and given us what we deserved but, instead, He has shown His amazing love to us.

The scriptures tell us this many times.  “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).  “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son” (John 3:16).  “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).  “This is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10).

Meditate on these scriptures today, let the truth of them fill your soul.  It is Him, His love, His kindness, His initiative.  He did it and to Him be all the glory.
