Daily Devotional for 15 July 2020 – Genesis 2v7 part 3

Genesis 2:7 part 3

Our life is more than just physical.  He “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.”  Adam became a living being through the breath of God.  Again, this is so precious and personal, intimate and loving.  Adam possessed something of divine nature, even though He was created.  He didn’t just have physical life like the animals; he had spiritual life also.

Job 33:4 says, “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”

Our value as human beings doesn’t come from physical things such as beauty or achievements or possessions, but from the fact that God Almighty has personally given us life.

Adam lost that spiritual life when he sinned, and so did all of mankind after him.  We are still made in the image of God, but that image is damaged.  We are still unique and precious, but we are fallen.

But the glorious thing about Jesus is that He came to restore spiritual life.  John 3:3 says, “You must be born again.”  This is the work of the Holy Spirit.  If you are a Christian, you have been born again.  The Lord has breathed His life into your soul.  You are not spiritually dead like Adam became; you are alive by the power of the Holy Spirit.  “…He made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:5)

So the Lord God personally formed you and He has breathed His new life into your soul.   Your life is unique, precious and eternal in Jesus Christ.

Don’t look at what you have or what you do or how you look in the mirror. None of these things give you value. Look up in faith. The Lord of the universe has given you life – and now eternal life. And nothing can take that away.
