Genesis 2:7 “…then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”
Look at how personal this is. In Genesis 1, every other created thing God made by speaking. “God said… and it was so.” But here, “The Lord God formed the man.” This is personal. It is like a potter making something wonderful, shaping each feature to His unique design.
And He still does. Although you inherited features from your parents and grandparents, the Lord God has made you unique. You are His creation, unique and precious – “Your hands fashioned and made me” (Job 10:8).
The world says “everyone is special”, which is true, but they don’t know why everyone is special. The why is because you have been formed by the Lord God Almighty.
And because you are special, you haven’t got to be someone else. You need to be you as the Lord made you to be. That is not a licence to do what we want; we are made in God’s image. Christians are called to Christ-likeness. But that Christ-likeness is not shown by conforming to a human standard, but expressed through your unique personality and gifts.
And because He has made you, you can be thankful for the way He has made you. He has made you as you are for a reason. The world is obsessed by image, but you don’t need to look like someone in a magazine. You are fashioned by the loving hand of the Lord Almighty.
Thank Him today that He has made you you.
