Have you ever felt like you are stuck in a hole and you can’t get out? I don’t mean a physical hole, but circumstances that make you feel stuck with no way out.
Have you ever felt like your troubles are going to destroy you?
Have you ever felt like you are sinking under your troubles?
If you have felt any, or all, of these things, you are not alone. David has, here in Psalm 40:2. He speaks of a pit (like being in a deep hole). This pit is a pit of destruction (he feels as if he will never get out of this deep hole, and it will destroy him). He speaks about a miry bog (like a swamp that is sucking him down so he is drowning).
All of these pictures tell us that David felt completely overwhelmed. But look what God did in answer to David’s cry. (verse 1)
“He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog.”
He lifted me up, he pulled me out, he rescued me.
Even if you feel completely overwhelmed, your situation is not overwhelming to Him. He will provide a way out. This trouble will not destroy you. You will not drown. The Lord has heard your cry.
Verse 1 tells us that David waited patiently. So he waited longer than he would have liked. But, in God’s perfect timing, He rescued David.
Even the greatest trouble is not too great for our God.
